This season looks different, but our mission to share hope found in Jesus remains the same! Our community has really come together to help those in need. You’ve donated 139 bags of groceries, 80 gallons of milk, and thousands of dollars to help People to People distribute food to members of our community. You also gave 625 lunches to Wooster City School students during their spring break! And this past week, you blessed 415 Wooster Community Hospital employees with lunch and a huge “Thank You” parade (socially distanced, of course). A huge thank you to YOU, to all of us coming together to share God’s love in practical ways in our community! It has been a blessing to my soul to see how these teams are meeting real needs and serving so many. I wish I could share all of the stories with you, but here are a few highlights from the past few weeks of ministry.

A few cool stories:

  1. One of our volunteers met a lady at our lunch distribution who had the most precious little girl with her. She asked about how she could get her kids involved in Grace Kids. We were able to share a Facebook invitation to the Grace Kids at Home group! In this group, kids get to sing, dance, listen to stories found in the bible, and even hear a brief message about how Jesus loves them! Check out Grace Kids at Home today!
  2. One family we met mentioned they were in need of size 3 diapers. Recollecting a recent donation through our food and hygiene drop off, we realized some diapers and wipes had just been donated. What size were they? Size 3! Two packs of them and two packs of the next size up too! OUR GOD IS SO AWESOME! Could you use some extra groceries / hygiene supplies or want to donate? Stop by M-F, 10a-2p at 4599 Burbank Rd. Wooster. Our volunteers would love to assist you!
  3. Joe Szeker, Director of People to People, called our church blown away by our efforts to provide timely relief. He told us the donations right before Easter could not have come at a better time. Joe was ready to head home at 1 o’clock on Thursday before Easter, but due to the overwhelming need, his team was still handing out food well beyond 3 o’clock. Learn how to get involved at People to People helping meet our community’s needs all year round!
  4. I wish I could have invited you all to come to Wooster Community Hospital, but of course we had to be extra careful to socially distance and protect our frontline workers. The outpouring of gratitude for a free gyro, lemonade and donut was astounding. You should read through our Facebook post’s comments from all of the WCH employees that gave YOU a shout out for caring for them in such a practical and meaningful way. Thanks for sponsoring meals and caring about people.

And do you know the best news yet?! We still have so many opportunities for more stories ahead of us. Despite our community facing unprecedented circumstances, we have been given a unique opportunity to help give hope to people in Wayne County… to rally together, offer a helping hand, and support one another.

If you have the flexibility and would like to join us, you can sign up to serve at the food drop off site here.  You can also help by purchasing and dropping off needed items Monday – Friday 10a – 2p. In case you missed it, here is the list of items we need! And if you can’t get out, but would still like to participate, here’s a way to donate now towards more COVID-19 Relief efforts.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. – 1 Peter 1:3
