Safe Harbor Ohio
Ohio will soon be home to Safe Harbor, a place of hope and healing for child survivors of sex trafficking. Ohio is ranked seventh in population in the United States, but fifth in the number of reported cases of human trafficking. Founder and CEO, Melissa Brown says “When I learned about the realities of sex trafficking, my heart broke. How could I know that this is going on and do nothing? I couldn’t.” Safe Harbor will provide trauma-informed, holistic care for the girls on-site, including: medical care, physical care, doctors, psychiatrists, staff therapists, and education in partnership with a charter school. Reconnecting with the community and where appropriate, family and relatives are also part of the Circle of Care, with mentoring, family, and group therapy.
